Off the beaten track

Together with Michel and Machteld Oaxaca is a wonderful adventure. We went ¨off the beaten track¨ and made some beautiful hikes from a small village San Mateo del Rio Hondo in the pine-forested mountains, only a few hours away from the cactus landscape.... It looked like the Mexican Alps!! We stayed in a nice little house without any other tourists around, good food served, wonderful views and a fireplace.
Michel got biten by a spider which effect is still not over (hurting articulations), but he survived so he now is our ¨spiderman¨.
Since Michel is just as much an endless storyteller as I, and we have years without seeing each other a lot, talking goes on from early morning tilll evening. He has an endless energy, we girls are both asthmatic and allergic (although I am doing great at the moment!!! only my eyelids are still very red, but Machteld and I exchange medicines) so he says ¨how good I can share with the two of you now, when one is tired the other one can still talk or walk¨. Being with him is a constant laughing therapy as well, with his creativeness and weird face grims. It is also really nice to get to know Machteld better by living together, she is a very caring person.
The three of us have our special interest - health service (Michel is docter for drug and alcohol addicts and Machteld works with handicapped), agronomy and indigenous culture - so we can ´feed´ each other with our specialisms.
We already visited a drugs rehabilitation centre and I helped translating... I am learning and enjoying at full speed once again!!
Now we have stepped out of the second class bus in which we travel at a random village in the midst of the tropical selva, to be stared at, but enjoy another non-typical tourist experience. It is so strange how fast climate and vegetation change here...
And the coast is still awaiting us.

From La Selva Lacandona bad news about our stove, that broke down.... the mud used was thus not resistant. I am determined to go back and the people still want to give it another try.
